Our Extra Oil

A magazine has a big picture of Christ on it titled, Is He Coming Back Or Not?

Are you ready for him if He does? That's what the world ought to be saying. Not, is He coming back, but are you ready for Him if He does come back.

Let’s begin with Matthew 25:27, Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

Now that scripture always used to bug me when I was younger. I said, I don’t understand it Lord, what are you getting on to him for, you didn’t tell him to go out there and do it. You didn’t tell them other ones either. So why are you getting on to him because he didn’t bring in the usury, he just took care of what he had to. You didn’t tell him to go out there and invest, but the rest of them did.

They did it on there own, they didn’t have to be encouraged, they didn’t have to be told … they had a desire to do something for God. Thou oughtest to have put my money to usury, you oughtest to have done that, you don’t have to be told to get somebody to come to church.

This thing has been told, I know a hundred times and this is another twist to an old one…

Matthew 25:1 Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

This has been preached many times that they are all virgins. They all had lamps and they all went to meet the bridegroom. Now five were wise and five were foolish. They that were foolish took there lamps but did not carry any extra oil.

I used to wonder that they had oil in there lamps but it had run out, they didn’t carry any extra oil, so how do you get extra oil, Lord? The oil always represents the Holy Ghost, so how do we get that extra Holy Ghost?

You come to the house of God, you come to church and worship Him and praise Him and do for Him, you keep His commandments and we get the extra oil that we need to make it to the end. That’s why it’s important to come to church.

Now the wise took oil in there vessels while the bridegroom tarried. Now I didn’t get this, they already went out to meet Him, they went forth but He tarried. I know scriptures say He wouldn’t that any should perish and is why He is long suffering toward us. But He tarried and at midnight there was a cry made, Behold the bridegroom cometh.

In this hour we are crying, He is coming. Now they may be wondering in the world, Is he coming. But we know that He is coming and everything points to His coming. And those who are wise and those who have got the extra oil are going to be able to go out and meet Him.

The scripture says that they arose and trimmed there lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, give us of your oil, for our lamps are going out. They had oil but didn’t make it to the end. In God’s house there are seats but many are empty. They would come to church and get some oil, and you know what … it’s so cheap.

But the wise said, not so lest there be not enough for us. But go ye unto them that sell and buy for yourself.

The preachers in God’s house are selling oil. All you have to do is come and it’s free, it don’t cost nothing. What a cheap price, get all the extra oil you need by coming to the house of God, this is where you get that oil. And you put that in your vessel and carry it with you, and trim that lamp. Now that lamp gets dull sometimes, mine’s been dull for a while, but if I got that extra oil, I keep putting it in there.

We get that extra oil by coming to God’s house and worshiping Him and praising Him and hearing His word. If we keep doing this, we make it to the end.

Matthew 25:9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

[10] And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Let me tell you something, we are entering into a phase to where what we believe is under attack at every angle. The world is trying to put an end to Christianity as we know it. And when that happens the door will be shut. But those who have got the oil, those who have trimmed their lamps, those who have made it to the end are going to the marriage supper.

One more thing that would always puzzle me, that man that had that hid that one little talent. He was called an evil servant because he wouldn’t take that one talent and prosper it for his God, his king.

Matthew 25:14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man traveling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

[15] And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

[16] Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

[17] And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

[18] But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

[19] After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

[20] And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

[21] His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

[22] He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

[23] His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

[24] Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

[25] And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

[26] His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

[27] Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

[28] Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

[29] For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

[30] And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

I don’t want to be in that kind of position, and that’s why we must get out and testify, and get folks into church. When we are doing this, we are breaking forth usury (anything we do for the Lord). I want to read something else …

Psalms 149:4 For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.

[5 ] Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.

    [6] Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;

This is our twoedged sword … the word of God! The Lord said that he takes pleasure in his people. The Lord takes pleasure in them that fear him and hope in his mercy. When we come to church, we are pleasing the Lord, and when we sing, we are giving him praise. He takes pleasure in his people. Doing something for him, worshiping him, praising him, and being part of his family. Amen!

I want to get all the oil that I can get, because I want to make it and get to the end. I want all the oil necessary to trim that lamp. And this is where we are going to get it, coming to church.

For the people out there in the world, it’s getting hard. They see it and don’t know what to do. But it gives you a great opportunity to open the doors and witness to them.

Praise the Lord! I hope I have given you something that will encourage you and was a blessing to you in some way.
